Taskaid vs Todoist
Todoist is one of the best task managers ever made. If you're reading this, you probably use it, or you're deciding between the two. This page is meant to help you decide, including when the answer is Todoist.
Where we agree
A task needs one home. More features do not mean more focus. And your AI assistant should be able to read and write your tasks without you copying and pasting between tabs.
Todoist has held the line on simplicity for nearly two decades while the category grew dashboards. It also has an official MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code can work with your Todoist tasks today. We respect all of that.
Where we differ
Todoist
The app is where you work. It runs on every platform. AI, including the MCP server, helps you operate it. Your assistant is a hand reaching into the app.
Taskaid
Your assistant is where you work. You're already in ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor when the task comes up. So the task should be able to live there: created there, updated there, closed there. The app is a quiet view you glance at, not a place you maintain.

Neither of us can add the other's approach as a feature. Todoist can't make its app secondary; the app is the product. We can't make ours primary; that would defeat the point.
What that changes in practice
Context belongs to the task, not the chat. Notes on a Taskaid task are written for the next session to pick up, whether that session is you or your agent. Your work outlives the conversation.
There is nothing to operate. Taskaid has three views: Inbox, Today and Upcoming. They come from one scheduled date. Lists are where a task belongs, nothing more. No filter language, no labels, no priority levels, no nesting. Todoist's filters, labels and priorities are powerful, and they're yours to operate. We moved that work to the assistant.
The daily plan is something you write, not a view you filter. One short piece of writing for the day: what to tackle, in what order, where to start. You write it, or your assistant does. In Todoist, today is a view of the list. Here, today has an author.
Who each is for
Todoist
- You open a task app many times a day and enjoy it. Todoist's apps are excellent. Ours is deliberately thin.
- You share projects with other people. Taskaid is built for personal work.
- You rely on the integration ecosystem: calendars, email, Zapier, the hundreds of apps built around Todoist over the years.
- You want precise control: filters, labels, priorities, recurrence rules you set yourself.
- You want a free plan. Taskaid doesn't have one.
Taskaid
- Most of your thinking already happens in ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor, and you'd rather not open a task app at all.
- "Plan my day" and "what did I say I'd do about this?" should just work in the conversation you're already in.
- You want less to manage, not more to configure.
- You're one person with one set of commitments, not a team.
The honest part
If Todoist works for you, keep it. Switch only if the way you work has already changed: you've noticed you tell your assistant about tasks more often than you type them into an app. That's who we built Taskaid for.
